The Modakeke community gathered today at the First Baptist Church, Oke-Amola, to mark the beginning of the 39th Akoraye Day Celebration with a Special Thanksgiving Service. The service was an uplifting start to the week-long festivities, uniting community members in gratitude and prayer for Modakeke’s progress and development.
Rev. (Dr.) Oyebanji, the church’s priest, delivered a thought-provoking sermon centered on the significance of Christmas and the virtues of sacrifice, faith, and perseverance exemplified by Mary and Joseph. He led the congregation in prayers for the success of the Akoraye Day Celebration and for continued peace and prosperity in Modakeke.
The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba (Dr.) Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, also graced the occasion. In his address, the revered monarch honoured the memory of Late Chief Adeoye, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the community’s growth. He praised the efforts of Modakeke’s illustrious sons and daughters, urging everyone to support ongoing developmental projects, regardless of the size of their contributions.
The event also featured a lively thanksgiving session led by the National President of the Modakeke Progressive Union (MPU), Prof. Peter Olawuni. Alongside members of the MPU and the Akoraye Day Organising Committee, he expressed gratitude to God for His blessings and prayed for the continued success of the 2024 celebration.
Traditional and honourary chiefs, community leaders, and members of the Organising Committee were among the notable attendees who joined in the day’s celebrations, underscoring the unity and commitment that define the Akoraye spirit.
