The Ogunsua’s Palace in Modakeke was abuzz with activity today as Omooba Oyeyemi Olatunji and his siblings, on behalf of the Dr. Olanrewaju Adebayo & Mrs. Felicia Oluwafunmike Olatunji Educational and Physical Development Foundation, presented an array of sports trophies and medals to community leaders and sports stakeholders.

The event, organized as part of the lead-up to the 39th Akoraye Day Celebration, honoured the enduring legacies of Dr. and Mrs. Olatunji. In his remarks, Omooba Olatunji commended his parents for their commitment to education and youth development during their lifetimes. He described the trophies and medals as a fitting tribute to their memory, aimed at fostering sportsmanship and youth engagement in Modakeke.

The ceremony featured the symbolic wearing of medals by the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba (Dr.) Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, the National President of the Modakeke Progressive Union (MPU), Prof. Peter Olawuni, and the Chairman of the Akoraye Day Celebration Planning Committee, Dr. Adesoji Obayomi.

Special recognition was given to longtime sports development advocates in Modakeke, Chief Matthew Isawumi and Chief Kayode Amola, for their unwavering support over the years.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of trophies for Secondary School (Male and Female Categories) – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, and Primary School Category – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions.

Medals to be distributed to all players in recognition of their accomplished participation, alongside cash gifts were presented to the MPU National Executives, who then handed them over to the Akoraye Day Celebration Planning Committee.

The ceremony drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries and community members, including Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba (Dr.) Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, MPU Executives, led by Prof. Peter Olawuni, Members of Ile Oba Ogunsua, led by Arole Omooba Abiola Oloke, and the Agun Compound, ANCOPPS Representatives, Local Government Chairman, Hon. Wale Adebayo, Chief Ade Adeniyi, members of the 39th Akoraye Day Celebration Planning Committee, members of the Great Ife Alumni Forum (Modakeke Branch), honourary and traditional chiefs, and other community leaders.

The atmosphere was charged with gratitude and unity as attendees celebrated the contributions of the Olatunji family and other community leaders toward advancing sports and education in Modakeke. This underscored the strong sense of unity and commitment to youth and sports development within the Modakeke community. It also sets a celebratory tone for the upcoming 39th Akoraye Day Celebration, which aims to strengthen cultural heritage and drive sustainable development.
