The Modakeke Islamic Grammar School Field came alive today as the final matches of the much-anticipated Akoraye Day Football Competition, part of the ongoing 39th Akoraye Day Celebration, took center stage. The event, which has been a source of excitement and community pride over the past months, drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, including dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and members of the Modakeke community.
Among the prominent attendees were the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba (Dr.) Joseph Olubiyi Toriola; National President of the Modakeke Progressive Union (MPU), Prof. Peter Olawuni; MPU National P.R.O, Mr. Ayo Ogunmuyiwa; former Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Adewale Adebayo; members of the 39th Akoraye Day Organising Committee led by Dr. Adesoji Obayomi. Youths, students, and sports lovers also added to the lively atmosphere.
The competition culminated with a grand ceremony where outstanding performances of players and teams across various categories were celebrated. Glamorous trophies and cash awards were presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in all categories, while individual players were recognised for their exceptional skills by receiving gold, silver and bronze medals. Omooba Oyeyemi Olatunji, in honour of his late parents, Dr. Adebayo and Mrs. Felicia Olatunji, sponsored these prizes.
First-place winners in both male and female categories received a complete set of jerseys, symbolising their triumph and teamwork, as sponsored by the duo of Chief Matthew Isawumi and Alfa Yinka Ismail (Alfa Nla Islamic Foundation).
Special awards for Most Valuable Players (MVP) were presented to Iyedupe Festus Gbolahan of Modakeke High School (Male Category) and Ismail Anifat of Islamic Redeemers Model College (Female Category).
