The Modakeke Town Hall came alive yesterday as the community hosted a vibrant Pre-Akoraye Day Celebration Dinner, marking an early highlight of the 39th Akoraye Day festivities. The event celebrated excellence, culture, and unity among Modakeke sons and daughters, with distinguished guests, captivating performances, and an atmosphere of camaraderie.
The centerpiece of the evening was the recognition of academic excellence in Modakeke. Amusan Oluwaseyitan Joshua of Royal Comprehensive High School, Oloyede Layout, was celebrated for his exceptional performance in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). With a stellar result of 5 A1s, 1 B2, 2 B3s, and 1 C4, he emerged as the student with the best result in the town.
Amusan Oluwaseyitan was awarded a ₦500,000 cash prize from the Late Oluwole Odelola Foundation, sponsored by Hon. Olumide Odelola. Accompanied by his proud parents, Joshua received the award from the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba (Dr.) Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, who praised the young scholar’s brilliance and offered words of encouragement for his future. The recognition of Amusan’s achievement underscores Modakeke’s commitment to fostering educational excellence among its youth.
The dinner also featured the decoration of newly-conferred honourary chiefs. Representing the group, Otunba and Yeye Otunba Baamoye of Modakeke, Chief and Chief (Mrs.) Gbenga Arojo, were adorned with their titles, symbolizing their contributions to the community’s progress.
Guests were treated to a variety of cultural performances, music, and fashion displays that highlighted Modakeke’s rich heritage. Traditional delicacies, including Iyan and Efo Riro, Eko and Akara, Eko and Dẹlẹ, Ofada rice, and more, were served alongside an array of beverages, ensuring a night of culinary delight.
The event was graced by prominent figures, including the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba (Dr.) Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, MPU National President Prof. Peter Olawuni, MPU National Executives, traditional and honourary chiefs, MYM Executives, politicians, technocrats, and an enthusiastic crowd of Modakeke sons and daughters. Their presence underscored the importance of the occasion in uniting the community and celebrating its achievements.
The Pre-Akoraye Day Celebration Dinner set a tone of pride and togetherness for the week-long festivities. With its blend of cultural displays, academic recognition, and communal spirit, the event showcased the essence of Modakeke’s resilience and commitment to progress.
